In Calabria, many young people speak English, but unfortunately the older generation can mainly speak Italian only. But as the Calabrians are incredibly hospitable, this is never an obstacle to communicating. Of course, it’s great if you know a little Italian, because it opens doors and hearts in a completely different way. But for a trip through Calabria or a vacation stay, this is not necessary.
