Appartamento Carmela

Lovely holiday flat on a small organic farm with a fantastic sea view surrounded by beautiful Calabrian nature. It still exists! Calabria away from beach tourism. There, where you can still experience the original. The artists Carmela and Renato have lovingly rebuilt their beautifully situated stone house over a period of about 7 years and have now set up a lovely holiday flat for guests on the ground floor.

 

Belmonte Calabro is beautifully situated just a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast, high in the mountains above the sea. It is an ideal place to spend a relaxing holiday in nature, away from mass tourism, and to experience a bit of real Calabria. Characteristic of this small mountain village are the many alleys, most of which do not allow car traffic, a small pretty piazza from which you have a breathtaking view all the way to the Lipari Islands, and many beautiful palazzi nestled against the mountain. If you don’t want to give up swimming altogether, you can still do so at the beach of Belmonte Marina (only 3 km away), where there is a long stretch of pebble beach.

In addition to the wonderful tranquillity, the region offers a signposted hiking trail from the sea up through the historic centre of the village and on to Monte Cocuzzo. The trail is about 20 km long and can be completed in about 8 hours and is a real highlight for nature and hiking lovers. Between Belmonte and Amantea lies a small paradise for divers between two rocks jutting out of the sea “Le Scoglie di Isca”. Since 1991, the area has been declared a marine nature reserve by the Italian WWF.

The house is exposed on the green hills between Belmonte Calabro and the next small village Longobardi with a fantastic sea view in the midst of the most beautiful green landscape. The holiday home has an open bedroom with a double bed (on request there is room for two folding beds for small children, four of us slept well in the room!), bathroom with shower and a cosy living room with an open kitchenette. There is wifi!

In front of the flat is the covered veranda with dining table, from which you also look out over the olive groves to the sea. Carmela and Renato farm for their own consumption, grow organic vegetables and fruit, produce olive oil, have chickens, dogs, two snow-white cats and a large goldfish pond. Carmela makes wonderfully fragrant natural soaps from olive oil and various herbs, and creates lampshades and sculptures of various sizes from clay. Renato is also a passionate ceramic artist, gardener and has a very extensive collection of chilli plants from all over the world.

The place is an excellent starting point for excursions, hikes or just for a holiday in the midst of silence, good air and nature, for reading, walking, eating well and relaxing.

The prices are per week. Occupancy from Saturday to Saturday is desirable but not essential. In addition to the rental price, € 80.00 for additional costs are to be paid in cash on site. This includes bed linen and towels, final cleaning and water, electricity, gas.

A deposit of € 50,00 is to be paid on arrival.
